so after the laid back 2:48 from last sunday (Phoenix) its time to get to work for REAL. A light hill work out this morning though, 'cause I'm still winding down papers for my clases. But still got my arse to cricket Hill at 5:45 for 4 miles on the hill, 8 total.

Criminy! what a day...
R.I.P. chris woods... sorry about your fibula fracture this morning... Thats what happens when you are not careful with SEX. i mean ICE. Hope you are back up at it soon (I mean RUNNING).
Matt and I had a relaxed 8 miles, and we ran into jordan and some fast dude who trains with the likes of Wehrman. jordan told me his training secrets.
I am also going to make a weight disclosure: 160 lbs, 10 more than before I left Boston for the holidays.
I need to get down to 140 lbs by April for the Big Marathon.

Friday Five
I think the last two days of tempo runs caught up with me today. I headed to the hill by myself this afternoon--after learning Rick and Ed went without me this morning (read: I am bitter)--and did only a half mile on the hill. Feeling terribly sluggish, I headed home.
See you in the AM for more tempo.

Four Days Late
One of my resolutions this year was to post daily training. I am now four days behind. Anyway, here goes.
Wednesday
Total: 8.5 Mi | Tempo: 6.25 Mi | Avg Tempo Pace: 6:30/Mi
Thursday
Total: 10.5 Mi | Tempo: 8 Mi | Avg Tempo Pace: 6:15/Mi
Good articles from today:
Great interview with a runner I've never heard of...but should have.
Activeness.com - Going the Distance: Catching Up With Craig Virgin
More Karnazes. I like the guy and what he does, but I have difficulty believing the untrained 30 miles in a drunken stuper story. I've never run 30 miles. That's just tough.
Wired Mag - The Perfect Human
Interesting story on doping.
Wired Mag - The Righteous Fury of Dick Pound
Oh, and sign up to win the Garmin Astro dog tracking product for Bosco.
See you on the path on Friday.
Since my weight is probably the factor holding me back the most right now, I am also going to start posting periodic measurements.
Weight this morning: 138 lbs | Boston Marathon Target: 130 lbs

UUUGHHH Bad LT day
I tried my first LT of the season today. I decided to go for a not so ambitious 30 min (5 miles). I only did about 27 min (bathroom needs cut it short) but whats worse was the pace (and i was going at it pretty hard): 6:13 6:03 6:19 6:21 1:35 stopped early. This is not promising looking at Phoenix...

First workout with the CRC
So I finally made it to a track work out with the Cambridge Running Club. Seemed like a nice bunch, they were doing repeat miles at the MIT Indoor track. I was still feverish and could only manage 6 min miles, but they had a couple of guys doing 5:20's... I may be able to run with them when healthy.
So they do their repeat miles in a very interesting way, alternating a fast lap and a slower lap (8 laps to the mile, one lap in 40 sec, 1 lap in 50, and so on). This was a good way to do it as the "slow" lap was actually a chance to rest.
Anyway, I only did 3 repeats and jogged to and from the track for a total of about 10 miles. The flu is still kcicking my ass and this morning I feel like shit.

You know it's bad when...
Your LT is slower than your Marathon pace!
Synopsis: 8 miles total; 5 @ LT @ 6:38 pace.
Josh showed up as Mesh's replacement today. Mesh was nursing a sore hamstring. Josh finished about 20-30 seconds behind me. He ran well really well since for someone who hasn't been working out. I've got no excuse and need to figure out a way to stay under 6:30.
Thursday rematch.
